This approach can be used for a number of vestibular disorders like benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and decreased vestibular function due to neuritis or labyrinthitis. A physiotherapist will perform an assessment and determine the exercises that will benefit you the most. It is important to know that these re-training exercises may make you feel worse at the beginning, but it is important to persevere as most often balance begins to improve and symptoms decrease or disappear.

A concussion is a complex injury to the brain that occurs due to trauma. Trauma may be a blow to the head, but is not necessary. Symptoms come in a variety of ways; physical, cognitive and behavioral. You may only have a few of these and they can be from any category.

Physiotherapy can help you treat and manage your concussion symptoms while your brain heals. There is no medication or specific therapy that can cure concussion. Lots of new research is being done on concussion rehabilitation. Physiotherapy for concussion may include rehabilitation involving vestibular, visual and orthopedic techniques. Treatment involves education, exercises, balance retraining and potentially hands on treatment of the neck.

If you have neck pain or stiffness from your injury, evidence shows it is best to seek treatment as soon as possible. If you find you are struggling with return to play protocol we can provide education to help. If you are still feeling abnormal after 3- 4 weeks post-concussion please book a concussion assessment with a physiotherapist.

Lisa likes to empower clients to improve their function and achieve their goals. She finds it essential to help clients decrease pain, but also assist them in understanding and correcting the source of the problem.

Lisa has been practicing physiotherapy since she graduated from the University of Alberta in 2010. She has taken training in advanced manual therapy, acupuncture and dry needling. In addition to orthopedic issues, she has a special interest in dizziness. She has training in assessing and treating benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and other vestibular disorders as well as concussion management. Her work with vestibular conditions has lead to an interest in applied neurology. Applied neurology uses the function and anatomy of the brain to target pain, vision, vestibular and balance deficits. This creates a more efficient way of treating the individual. Your vestibular and vision systems can have a big impact on your pain.

She has taken an interest in using specific exercise to treat conditions related to pelvic stability. Conditions affected by the pelvis can range from hip, back, shoulder, knee pain and more. This can be beneficial to anyone, but especially people returning to activity after pregnancy and birth.

Lisa grew up in the Okanagan and has played soccer from a young age. At this point in her life, when not at work, she spends most of her time chasing her young children around.

Lisa likes to empower clients to improve their function and achieve their goals. She finds it es... Read More
